1 Bedroom Tiny Home on Canal near River in Fort Myers! Shared Yard With Owners! | House in North Fort Myers
1 Bedroom House in Fort Myers, North Fort Myers
The 'KeyWestern' is a tiny home (on a foundation) that reflects the charm of 'Key West' and the details of the 'Old West' situated on a canal leading to the river and downtown Fort Myers only 10 minutes away boat, car or 20 minute walk.
The home boasts 'Coastal Living' with a private Koi Pond fully stocked in a private unique yard space. Ready for lots of outside activity. Bring or rent a kayak/canoe and explore the waters adjacent to downtown Fort Myers. This is urban living in a transitional neighborhood that was original when the city was built. Located on a dead end street leading to river, the home is private and secure. Bring your pets, owners are pet friendly.
You may see occasional otters; variety of birds; plenty of fish from our door and an sometimes a small gator. If the king fishers seem to like the Koi Pond, please encourage them to leave, we don't like feeding them.
Our 'Cabana' is quaint and a very unique experience. Come and taste living in a 'Tiny Home' that addresses your every need. The kitchen and trim woodwork is hand-built from wood from an original home on Sanibel. Unique western sliding barn door in the bedroom with farm sinks in kitchen and bath. Other detailing is also re-purposed from barns in Ohio.
Complete western decor with Fine Western decorating blends exceptionally well with KeyWesten flair.
NOTE: It is not an expensive neighborhood, but we love it and have felt safe and secure. Does not have laundry room and neighbor dog may bark a little at times but keeps potential riff raff out:) Please do not swim in the canal.
Truly a 'Unique Tiny Home' experience.
House History:
We recently renovated the home blending our 2 loves, Key West & Montana.
The home is situated in Cabana City, an old original neighborhood built next to downtown. We used reclaimed wood from an original house on Sanibel. The story is quite interesting, a man built a home for his wife and she came to see it when done, by boat, of course. It was storming and he tried meeting her at the pier but the captain took her straight to the house where she stood waiting in the rain for hours, no key. She was so mad, she never stepped into the home and returned home. The woodwork around the windows; the sliding barn door and heart of pine counter tops are from that home. The metal from a barn in Ohio. We used to own a vacation rental on the Yellowstone River as you enter Yellowstone Park in Montana, much of the furnishings are from Montana.. My husband, Jason, built the cupboards. The upgraded plywood was used first on the home during the hurricane in 2017:) Jason's brothers contributed the Yellowstone Park sign from 40 years ago.
The Koi Pond was converted from an above ground pool. Our fish are named for our you want to leave one in your behalf, please do. Please take a picture of your fish and you, name them and post to facebook, or send to me: Terry Records; 239-887-2163. We like to know our fish:) You will be surprised when you visit again how your fish grows. The large yellow koi were 2 inches big just before the hurricane Sept. 2017. If you see birds fishing, please chase them away. They win occasionally:(
Woodpeckers love the old palm missing a top covered with occasional small alligator may sun beside the deck in grass; otters play sometimes; lots of fish. A local reports the largest snook he ever caught in 70 years was at the mouth of our canal as you leave our area. Have fun!!
Just in Case:
1. By the plug in tub, a small amount of water stands there. It is not backed up, the angle at that immediate spot causes it.
2. The pump for waterfall and bubbler in Koi pond gives them air. Please let us know if it stops for any reason.
3. Direct water from the spiquot will kill the fish, the trash can beside is used in dry season. You can fill it, let the water stand for 24 hours and then dump in the pond if the water is low.
4. Please do no use the boat. If anything appears unusual, please let us know.
5. The neighbor to the left as you face the water is deaf. The neighbor to the right is Mike. Across the water are Mike, Deanna and daughter, Mattie. Their number is 406-750-0006 or 406-799-1324. Mattie takes care of the fish.
6. If the internet stops for any reason, reset the router which is located in the walk-in closet top shelf.
7. If you take out a canoe in the water, it is a very interesting experience through the groves, then downtown is right there. If you rent a boat, get an outboard. During dry season, it is easiest to come and go at high tide for boats with outboard motors, you can get caught. Please call for best route. Canoes, kayaks, boards are good anytime.
We hope you enjoy our bit of Paradise.
Terry and Jason
