Lineage
Originally a Latin term for a fortified castle, `château` evolved during the Renaissance into a refined manor.
Moving away from dark military structures, French nobles embraced Italian classical ideals: aesthetics, symmetry, art, and harmony with nature adapted to French tastes, climate, and traditions.
This resulted in the genesis of a distinctive Franco-Italian hybrid; the elegant, picturesque Loire châteaux. Born in the early 1500s this is the version we know to this day. So profound was the movement that Leonardo Da Vinci himself migrated to the Loire Valley where he spent his final years.
